Litter in Riverdale

Litter in Riverdale Streets

You may have noticed that each week the Borough experiences free newspapers delivered to residences that don't quite make it to the yards. Instead this litter ends up in the streets and/or sidewalks, which are a part of the public right of way. We have contacted both the Star Ledger and North Jersey Media (The Bergen Record, The Herald News and the Trends) about their litter in the gutter, but it continues.

The taxpayers of Riverdale spends thousands upon thousands of dollars complying with federal and state laws regarding stormwater management. The practice of these newspapers, under the guise of their First Amendment rights, are flying in the face of those stormwater regulations. It is wrong and the actions of their delivery people must reflect the policies of their editors. They are always preaching environmental responsibilities for everyone else. It is time they start practicing what they preach!

Call this number and ask to be put on a do not deliver list to avoid the littering in front of your house: North Jersey Media 1-888-504-4280; for the Star Ledger: 1-888-453-3437

If this littering of the streets of Riverdale continues, and if you subscribe to any of the above newspapers, you may want to cancel your subscriptions until they learn to respect our community.
